GunFreeZones.org is committed to educate the public about the problems with "Gun Free Zones" in universities, public schools, public libraries, public parks, post offices, etc. We are also committed to working for the repeal of the "Gun Free School Act of 1994" that has increased deaths in schools by over 300%.
The only Gun Free Zones that we might be able to support are those where every person who enters is checked and where professional security positioned outside of the location (i.e., the Superbowl, Whitehouse, etc.). Gun Free Zones that are not setup this way have been proven to fail every time a criminal wants to kill a large number of defenseless people. Gun Free Zones where some individuals are allowed to go around the security check because they are a Judge, Lawyer, etc. do not work!
Universities, schools, public libraries, public parks and post offices are the number one targets of persons looking to commit violent criminal acts. Many times these people have felt abused and/or ignored by those around them and are extremely angry &/or suicidal. All of our citizens needs to be aware of individuals who display extreme anger or who talk about suicide or violent acts. Authorities at every level need to seek to respond to these individuals and to stop them from acting in violent ways.
The rights of law abiding citizens to personal protection must be protected! Our city police can not respond in time to prevent even most of the acts of violence. Citizens must be allowed to be prepared to step up to protect themselves and others.
There's a home security company's television ad that shows a woman in her home when her ex-boyfriend breaks down her front door. Her "security alarm" goes off and the ex-boyfriend runs away. That is NOT what happens in many real life situations. Many times there is some level of violence, up to and including murder, then police arrive a minute or two later.
If we could re-write that television ad, the woman would calmly open her quick access, single firearm, NRA safe, remove her handgun and ask her ex-boyfriend to stick around while she calls the police to arrest him. Talk about personal power, personal protection and peace through strength and preparedness! That the way we like it!
America's Founding Fathers understood this when they established the 2nd Amendment as a foundational law for our country: "... the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
